The corona crisis is creating big differences between sectors that are or are not managing to adapt their business models to the circumstances in time, ABN AMRO concludes in its Sector Forecasts 2021 and 2022. Resilient companies will recover faster from the corona crisis, the bank says.
ABN Amro writes that business services, which includes the cleaning industry, managed to limit the damage by corona, despite a 6 per cent contraction.
Turnover down despite resilience
The bank sees that cleaning companies have also shown their most resilient side in recent months. However, this has not prevented a net decline in turnover this year. Cleaning companies faced a sharp increase in vital sectors. At the same time, staffing needs largely disappeared in sectors such as the events industry, hotels and football stadiums. In response, cleaning companies sought new end markets to compensate for the drop in demand. In the summer, work in holiday parks and the hotel industry picked up to some extent, only to decline as the second wave took hold.
ABN Amro sees an improved outlook for next year. They expect the industry to pick up when the one-and-a-half-meter economy is lifted during 2021. Until then, resilience will have to keep cleaning entrepreneurs afloat.
