‘Christmas present’ for Belgian cleaners: gold bars in sewers

Belgian news website VRT writes that a cleaning crew found two gold bars in a sewer in central Brussels. An investigation has been launched, Brussels police reported.

Workers were unblocking a drain leading to the sewers a little after nine o'clock on Tuesday morning when they saw the two gold bars. They immediately alerted the police. The latter opened an investigation to find out whether the bars might have come from a crime.

The total value of the gold bars found is estimated at 98,000 euros. Should the rightful owner of the gold bars not turn up within six months, the cleaners can claim part of the value.
