Cleaners must not miss out on care bonus again

Cleaners must not miss out on care bonus again
2 May 2021

Cleaning Netherlands Calls on minister Van Ark (Medical Care & Sport) to to ensure, when paying out the care bonus for 2021, that now all care cleaners do receive the bonus and that no cleaners miss out on their earned bonus, as in 2020.

Piet Adema, chairman Schoonmakend Nederland, says of the appeal: “Experience with the 2020 care bonus shows that between 10 and 15% of care cleaners missed out on the bonus. Care providers refused to nominate them for the bonus, often with the motivation that they wanted to avoid their own staff potentially missing out on the care bonus as a result. We absolutely must avoid this state of affairs for this year.”

‘Third parties’

The objection was also heard that nominating ‘third parties’ for the care bonus would lead to excessive administrative burdens and/or perceived risks. As a result, for instance, people from the care provider's own service received the bonus and the hired cleaners from the same team, doing the same work, did not. A very unpleasant situation for the cleaners involved.

Care bonus for all cleaners

Adema: “The healthcare bonus is in appreciation of the great efforts of healthcare personnel during the corona crisis. Cleaners within the healthcare sector also have an important role to play in the fight against Covid-19. After all, hygiene and cleaning are important pillars to prevent the spread of the virus. All cleaners in care facilities and hospitals are simply entitled to this appreciation.”
