“It is disappointing that the cabinet and the chamber are not more energetic in making the labour market more attractive,” Piet Adema, president of Schoonmakend Nederland, wrote on the industry association's website in response to the plans presented during Prinsjesdag.

On Prinsjesdag, Tuesday 21 September, the finance minister (Wopke Hoekstra) presented the budget of the outgoing cabinet to the House of Representatives.

‘Labour market reform necessary’

The president of Schoonmakend Nederland reacted moderately to the plans presented. “With a new cabinet waiting, tackling major problems is slow. The necessary reform of the labour market is lagging behind.”

The administrative burden and financial risks for employers must be addressed.

Adema continued: “For an effective approach to labour market tightness, it must become more attractive to work and to work more. At the same time, the administrative burden and financial risks for employers must be addressed.”

“It is disappointing that the cabinet and the chamber are not moving forward to make the labour market more attractive,” concludes the Schoonmakend Nederland chairman.
