Wages for cleaners must remain well above the minimum wage. ‘If the sector is to remain attractive to new workers, wages in the new collective agreement must go up substantially,’ says CNV Vakmensen negotiator Jan Kampherbeek. ‘Other arrangements, such as travel allowance, also need to improve a lot. Cleaners now often lose money on getting to their jobs. That's exactly how you drive people out of cleaning.’

The current collective agreement for the 120,000 cleaners and window cleaners in the Netherlands still runs until 1 July 2024. Negotiations for a new collective agreement will begin on 19 March.
