Police last Friday arrested a 39-year-old man who pushed a window cleaner off his ladder in December, reports the AD. The window cleaner sustained serious injuries in the process and is still in hospital.
Window cleaner Michel got into a fight with a resident while working in the Schilderswijk district of The Hague on 14 December. An altercation ensued over the payment of 15 euros. Until the 39-year-old resident pushed the window cleaner off his ladder.
Michel fell 10 metres down and shattered his knee, wrist and hand. He will also never be able to see with one eye again. The injuries are so severe that his rehabilitation will take a long time. Glass washing is out of the question for the time being.
Doubts over declaration
Speaking to the AD, Michel says he did not initially intend to press charges against the resident who pushed him down. “It's not that I want to punish him,” he says. But to recover the charges, he had to. “I hesitated about it for a very long time,” says Michel. In the end, he decided to press charges anyway.
It took over a month to apprehend the suspect. A police spokesman told the newspaper that thorough investigations had to be carried out first. There was an extensive neighbourhood investigation, for instance, and witnesses were interviewed. The 39-year-old Hagenaar who was arrested is suspected of attempted manslaughter and aggravated assault. He is now in custody.
