The combination of rising absenteeism rates due to resurgence of the corona pandemic, mass home working and a tight labour market, once again caused considerable challenges in the cleaning industry in 2021. Despite this, the sector showed tremendous resilience, even resulting in an increase in turnover for most companies, Service Management market research shows. The vast majority of cleaning companies surveyed expect a further increase in turnover for 2022. With this, the cleaning industry seems to be leaving the pandemic behind in financial terms.
As a result of the corona pandemic, 54 per cent of companies within the cleaning industry experienced a temporary drop in sales in 2021. Although this represents more than half of the companies surveyed, the percentage is three per cent lower than in 2020. In addition, 17 per cent of companies actually experienced a (temporary) increase in turnover. Some 29 per cent experienced no direct hindrance or benefits from the corona pandemic and achieved an unchanged turnover. The cleaning companies surveyed by Service Management therefore look to the future with optimism. More than 83 per cent, for instance, reported that they expect an increase in turnover in 2022.
