Ventilation has always been and will continue to be important. By Covid-19, the importance of ventilation has become even clearer. But how do you ensure good ventilation? In this article, 5 basic ventilation tips.

Fresh air is important for health. In enclosed spaces, air becomes increasingly dirty. Ventilation allows fresh air to flow in. This is necessary to maintain good air quality. Lower air quality can cause complaints such as fatigue, headaches and dizziness. In addition, virus particles, for example from the corona virus, can spread better in rooms without ventilation. It is therefore necessary to continuously ventilate rooms in buildings.

Five basic tips for good ventilation

To help people, specifically building owners and managers, ventilate properly, here are five tips for good ventilation:

Tip 1: Open gable vents and flap windows and keep them clean

Dirty grilles let less fresh air through.

Tip 2: Leave windows ajar

Keeping windows ajar is only necessary in older buildings, where there are no other ventilation facilities. Newer buildings usually have mechanical ventilation.

Tip 3: Ensure proper maintenance and adjustment of mechanical ventilation

A mechanical ventilation works best if the system:

  • is properly adjusted;
  • has been maintained annually;
  • is in the right position to suit the use of the room.

Tip 4: Limit the number of people in a room

Do not allow more people into a room than the ventilation system can handle. As an owner/manager, do you want to know how many people can fit into an indoor space? If so, contact an expert.

Tip 5: Use a CO2 meter if there is one in the room

A CO2 meter tells how much carbon dioxide is in a room. That substance is in exhaled air. The CO2 level gives an estimate of the amount of fresh air. If the value is too high, extra ventilation is needed.
